Contact Improvisation Workshop

with Chris Aiken & Joerg Hassmann

November 7-8 in Berlin

Movement, Sensation and Intention: A Biotensegrity Model
- food for contacters and other dancers -

Chris' and Joerg's understanding of the moving body is strongly influenced by the recent scientific research into the myo-fascial system - formerly rather neglected under the name 'connective tissue'. Many body working methods and movement practices are inspired now by the fascinating discoveries within this body system. We will look at how the matrix of the fascial tissues functions, so that it can create an adaptive medium to provide form for the body, support for movement and the perception of embodiment. Chris and Joerg are looking forward to researching the similarities and differences in their approaches. Chris is informed both by his dialogues with fascia researchers and his experience as a dancer and bodyworker. Joerg’s approach is based on very clear (and delicious) physical sensations around essential connections within the body. Encouraged through long-term exchanges with colleagues he imagines this perception to be based on the fascia matrix, while keeping a healthy skepticism alive (see his blog).

Specific mental input, hands on work, solo explorations and frames for the practice of Contact Improvisation will offer ways from the fascia work into the dance and visa versa.

A basic understanding of CI is very helpful to integrate the offered material.
